A Sweet Tooth Abroad: South Korea!
As a self-proclaimed foodie and lover-of-sweets, I have found that one of my favorite parts of travel is the food! You can learn so much about a culture by having a meal with locals or trying a food unique to a certain area. Therefore, throughout my travels, I made sure to sample every interesting and appetizing treat I could possibly find! A sweet tooth abroad, indeed!

My first day in Korea! |
With a love for writing and grammar, I have found that I most easily
express myself through the written word. English is my most enjoyable subject,
where I am able to lose myself in a story and appreciate a world that has been
created by mere words. Thus, with a belief in the power of words, it is perhaps
no surprise that I have developed a passion for studying languages. The Korean
language, in particular, drew me in due to the beauty of its characters and the
words they form. My goal, in learning this language, was to be able to freely express
my own thoughts using these characters. I also hoped to better understand this
foreign culture by learning to write, think, and speak in the Korean language.
Then, upon entering college, I
found that enjoyed studying business and economics. In order to converge this
interest in business with my passion for languages, I declared a major of
Global Supply Chain Management. With this, I began working towards a career in
international business, with the goal of joining a company based in South
Korea.
Thus, in my junior year, I studied abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea in order to experience
the Korean culture first-hand. This immersive experience allowed me to pursue
both language study and an education in international business at the same time.
And, as I had hoped, the intensive Korean courses I completed while abroad
exponentially increased my Korean comprehension level.
Living abroad showed me that there is no correct way to live one’s life.
Although I may not understand some aspects of Korean culture, I have always
thought of these differences as another way of life: one that is neither wrong
nor right, but simply different. This is a mindset that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life and travels.

It may have taken me an entire semester to master the (very simple and convenient) subway system. |

I never did get a Yonsei letterman jacket. I knew it would never be worn in the warm California weather at home. |

Bukhansan Mountain once more. This is my favorite mountain! |

I will never forget the friends I made along the way!
